I typically enjoy ringing in the New Year with my adult comrades, which means my kids spend the holiday with a grandparent, but this year I decided to put together a little NYE-eve celebration for them, complete with "mocktails". Silas and Tristin weren't home, so in an effort to concentrate on doing something special with the younger two, which doesn't happen often enough around here, we got out some plastic stemware from the Dollar Store, a few sweets the kids had accumulated over Christmas, and some simple ingredients for our beverages, and voila, we had a little party. Enid jumps at any chance to set up a party, so she especially ate it up. She's a born hostess! And Tom is a fan of anything that involves sweets, so he was all in. We also blew up some balloons and played Enid's favorite mood music, One Direction. (Harry Styles forever!) I honestly could have stopped with the balloons. Why do kids love balloons so darn much?!
For our drinks, we used the most delish of all waters, Mountain Valley Spring Water, from the natural springs of Hot Springs, Arkansas. Mountain Valley Water is no joke. It's the cleanest, purest tasting water I've ever put in my mouth. I am addicted to their Blackberry Pomegranate sparkling water. The absolute best, I tell ya! THE best!
We even got dressed up! Tom's get-up is from the Smallable Capsule Collection. What better time to don a pink velvet accented suit than NYE! He was fine with it because he thought he looked like a ninja in the jacket.
Despite Tom's demeanor, I promise these drinks were nonalcoholic ;) He's just lip-syncing to One Direction. And you know the funniest part about celebrating New Years with young kids? When one of them asks, "What's a year?"
But when balloons and chocolate and sparkly beverages are involved, who cares if you can comprehend the meaning of a year! Definitely not these two!
As much as I do enjoy celebrating New Years with grown ups who understand the significance of entering into a new year, if you're a parent and don't live near grandparents who jump at the opportunity to spend time with their grandkids, like my kids' grandparents, then you probably have a hard time finding a sitter for NYE. If so, throw together some festive drinks, pop some popcorn, and celebrate with the people who mean the most to you, your kiddos. Chances are you won't regret it ;) And if you want to reference the oh-so-simple drinks we made, the recipes are below. HAPPY NEW YEAR!!
