Last September we moved into a new home, an old farmhouse, built in 1923, full of creaky, uneven floors and single-pane, leaky windows. It was a move that wasn't exactly planned, but seemed to work out with relative ease, providing us with much-needed larger space for our family of 6.
When we moved in, I got rid of a LOT, so we were basically starting from scratch and furnishing and decorating room by room. The first room we took on was Silas and Tom's shared bedroom. Up to this point, they had a bunkbed, which the kids enjoyed, but I had grown to despise. Making a bunkbed is a form of torture, in my book. Luckily, with help from West Elm, we were able to replace the bunkbeds and create a comfortable, fun, and functional room for two boys. West Elm is the ultimate shop for all things home related, so this was quite a fun project!
One of my favorite things about this room is the exceptionally large closet space that accompanies it. It's a great size and can house the boys' dressers as well as their hang-up clothes, so there was plenty of area in the room to create a cozy and livable space.
I knew I wanted a foot-to-foot bed layout and was thrilled when I found these beds from West Elm that just perfectly fit the room. Silas and Tom LOVE this layout so much. The first night the beds were up, the boys wanted the whole family to sleep on them. To them, the beds just seem to go on forever!
It was important to me for the room to feel comfortable and boyish, so I went with a classic bedding option. I cannot say enough wonderful things about this duvet cover! Fantastic feel and quality. Not to mention, ticking! I'm such a sucker for the ticking stripe! I also snagged this plaid throw pillow from the Etsy shop, Whitlock and Company. So many great throw pillow options there!
Because I love referential wall art, I was very pleased to run across this Guitar Chords Chart Poster from BOWOO. This is now the perfect little corner for Silas to relax and learn and play guitar.
And when you have a kid who draws and puts together legos on the regular, a desk is a must!
The kids and I are so pleased with how this room came together. They now have a space that encourages their creative juices to flow and enables them to comfortably spend time together. A big thanks so West Elm for being so great to work with on this! Shop the West Elm pieces below.
