This sofa. Old, tired, worn, drawn on, and completely in need of a reupholstery, new innards, and new cushions. It's been with us for several years, and before that, it was with others for even longer. It's a lovely sofa that will move to another room until we can find the time and money to recover it, but in the mean time, we're finally, for the first time in our marriage, getting a NEW sofa! We're updating the whole living room, in fact. The room isn't huge. It isn't a TV room either. It's a place that I would love for us all to congregate and talk and read and just be together, but it hasn't been a happy room to be in for a long time. It's been brown and old and sad. So I am so excited to get to make it cozy and bright and inviting for my family and guests.
When I was looking online for sofa options, I came across Interior Define and immediately loved the custom options. You choose the style, length, fabric, legs, all online, and then they get busy creating a custom sofa at a VERY reasonable price. Because we live in a small town, it's hard to find furniture that feels unique, so being able to piece together my desired sofa from my computer is a dream come true. Not to mention I don't have to cart a bunch of kids around to furniture stores! Yes, please. And thank you.
As for choosing the sofa style, I was really feeling this room, the modern and vintage mix, and was inspired to go with a more traditional sofa and maybe add some modern accents throughout the room. I narrowed it down to the Maxwell and Rose because of their vintage feel, and who can resist those legs! What can I say, I'm a leg girl.
Once I picked the style, next was deciding on the fabric! I love how clean and easy the virtual designer tool is on the ID site. You can switch between fabrics and legs and get a full 360 degree view of the product.
Interior Define makes the fabric picking process simple by sending fabric swatches, quality fabrics in a variety of colors and textures. Since our room has been so bland a dreary and brown, I knew I wanted to do something cooler in color, something in the grey or blue family.
All parties got in on the fabric selection fun, and everyone, as usual, had an opinion. Good news is, my opinion trumps all others ;) I decided on the Rose in a fun and somewhat daring (for me) Blue Saphire Mod Velvet, much like the sofa in my inspiration photo. EEEK! I'm beyond excited!
So now that the sofa and fabric have been chosen, I wait and plan the rest of the room! It never happens for me as quickly as I would like. We've finally decided to paint the wood trim in the room and will also be painting the mantle, and with kids all around, it all seems to take 20 times longer than I anticipate. But it's coming together, slowly but surely, and it's gonna be so much better than the sad brown that was before. Stay tuned!
